I love Walken.io, but is it worth investing in it?

Walken.io is a WEB3 mobile app aiming to help people earn crypto by walking and playing. You might say that it’s not much, probably not even worth analyzing such a simple product. I gotta tell you, it is much MORE than that.

Being an economist my life is about analyzing and optimizing the heck out of everything. So of course I was eager to create my own spreadsheet of Walken.

About Walken.io

Walken is a health app combining a conventional pedometer, a tamagotchi and a PvP game. The company has a crystal clear vision and mission defined. The mobile app makes this all possible with its simple GUI and gamification technique.

How does it work?

Downloading the app gives you your own random CAThlete. CAThletes are the beings present the walken world. You have to take care of your CAThlete by walking and competing against other walkeners.

Every CAThlete has 3 traits: Strength, Stamina and Speed. Users are recommended to choose their Competitions based on their strongest trait.

During a competition your traits and your steps from your last 24 hours are included. The CAThlete with better statistics wins. There are certain modifiers like clothes and mysberries which let you enhance your default stats.

While walking lets you collect gems, winning a competition grants you a certain amount of wlkn, which is the cryptocurrency of walken. You can decide to cumulate wlkn or you can invest it into your CAThlete(s).

As Alexei has mentioned in a recent webinar: their mission is to lower the entry barrier to crypto and to teach people how to invest.

If you invest your earned wlkn wisely, you can quickly multiply the initial value.

But is it worth it?

TL,DR: Yes, within a reasonable limit.

I have created a spreadsheet containing prizes, costs and ROI (Return on invest). I was curious about different types of CAThletes. I had to know which was really worth it if I wanted to invest in the game. I already had a level 3 CAThlete, but I wanted to know if it boosted my long-term earnings if I invested in it.

Levelling up a cathlete to level 6 organically takes around 120 days or so. This means getting to level 6, but not creating an NFT from it. Creating an NFT requires an additional 200 wlkn, which takes roughly a month to collect.

However, buying your own common CAThlete gives you a crispy, new level 6 NFT CAThlete for around 400–600 walkens. With 1 wlkn valued as $0.08 currently, it means around $ 32–48.

$40 is the price of a meal in a restaurant. But is has much more value here in walken. You get an NFT and you get the chance to significantly boost your earnings.

So now we know that $40 is not much for investing in crypto and forming a healthy habit. It is a long-term investment. But how long does it take for us to get the invested money “back”?

ROI of investing in a CAThlete without an additional CAThlete:

Common: ~59 days
Uncommon: ~162 days
Rare: ~341 days
Epic: ~513 days
Legendary: ~819 days

If I have a common level 3 CAThlete at the time of purchasing my level 6 common CAThlete, it will only take around 41 days for me to earn the invested money in the form of wlkns.

For me, it would only make sense to invest in common ones, since I have a budget with which I’d be comfortable to invest only $40 in Walken. However, if someone would like to experiment with the app and crypto and has more reserved for this purpose, it could be a wise decision.

Conclusion

As I’ve mentioned, Walken has a crystal clear vision and mission and well-defined roadmap ahead of them and an already strong user base. I truly believe that this concept is wonderful and it has a bright future.

Apart from forming a healthy habit with reasonable gaming, my opinion is that investing in wlkn is a great thing to do. I have been analyzing it for the past month and I definitely recommend investing in it.

Disclaimer: these statistics come from my own research. I gathered every single information that I could and the rest is based on empirical research based on the experiences I had in the past month. If you also have statistics which are more precise or data that we can share, just let me know.

Walken and its community rocks! ❤
